Nashville Indiana is the county seat here in Brown County.  One of the greatest parts of Nashville is its incredibly unique shops. In fact, there are over 200 to choose from in a beautiful walkable area known throughout the Midwest as a mecca for artists of all types (more on that in a bit!).  There are plenty of really cool people and shop owners in town.  Strike up a conversation and listen to some of the interesting life stories.  The largest State Park in Indiana is just outside of town.  It has over 16,000 acres and offers beautiful nature trails, overlooks, guided horseback rides as well as RV and tent camping (just in case we are full!). Check it out on the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website: https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2988.htm. They aren’t too far from us, just off of SR46.

And while you are out in the area, stop by the Brown County Winery this small local winery offers a tasty variety of wines and they offer free samples.  Pick up a couple bottles as gifts or just to enjoy. Check out their website for more information: www.browncountywinery.com.

Salt Creek Winery also has a very nice selection of wines as well, set in a beautiful country setting. See their website to learn more about their business: www.saltcreekwinery.com.

Are you hungry yet?  Some of our favorite places to eat in Nashville include: The Brown County Inn (www.browncountyinn.com). They have a fantastic country-style breakfast buffet on weekends and their lunch/dinner menu is delicious, modern and classic too.  You can even book a room there if we are full.

The Birds Nest Café (birdsnest.cafe)  is a really nice place to grab breakfast or lunch or maybe even a mixed drink from “The Cocktail Fairy.”  The food is fresh and the staff is friendly.  It’s busy so there might be a wait, but trust us, it’s worth it.

We often eat in Nashville at Big Woods Restaurants, located in the alley at 60 Molly’s Lane.  The portabella mushroom sandwich is excellent!  They have a great pizza place too, just kiddy corner from them, called Big Woods Pizza.  Who don’t love pizza right?  www.bigwoodsrestaurants.com/nashville/

The Hob Nob Corner (www.hobnobcornerrestaurant.com) has an excellent pot roast sandwich, a very good quiche and a tenderloin sandwich that is a local tradition. Their food is a lovely combination of elegance and comfort.  It is in an historic building right in the center of town.  You can’t miss it (and shouldn’t!)

OutOfTheOrdinary

Out of the Ordinary is local pub on the main drag, Van Buren St., and offers a bar like setting with tasty food and a friendly staff.  You can catch a game on the tv there. Check out their Facebook page for updates and information: www.facebook.com/outoftheordinaryrestaurant

CasadelSol

If you’re in the mood for Mexican, Casa del Sol (casadelsolnashville.com)serves up good Mexican cuisine in big portions.  There’s room for eight people at some of the booths and offers outdoor seating.  The carnitas are one of our favorites.

Now let’s go SHOPPING!  Nashville is a great place for those who want a bit of local treasure. There are several places in Nashville to buy art, local art at that. What you may not know is that Nashville has been a vibrant artist’s colony for well over 100 years!  Art is very personal to anyone, but you will have no problem finding the place (or places!) you like best. For a little more history of Brown County, visit the Brown County Historical Society: www.browncountyhistorycenter.org.

If you like candles, homemade soaps, scrubs, shampoos or spa products (like massage oils!) stop in at Twisted Wick Candle Company (www.twistedwick.com) at 102 S. Van Buren St.  A very sweet older woman named Cathy is almost always working when we stop in.  She’s an old soul with some interesting stories.  Ask her about the years she spent in Costa Rica.  Their products are made from natural ingredients and fair priced.

Another unique venue in town is Nashville Spice Company located just across the street from the court house on Robert “Buck” Stogsdill Way. This is *the* place for spices you just can’t find anywhere else. Who says camp meals have to be bland? They also have an assortment of infused maple syrups, gift box sets and much more.  Mark is excellent proprietor and can help you find that for which you are looking.  To find out more, check them out at nashvillespicecompany.com.

For blown glass, be sure to check out Lawrence Family Glass Blowers, in business since 1967. Now that you’ve walked around town and shopped, we bet you’d love to satisfy that sweet tooth.  We have some big-time favorites in this category.  Personally, I’m a fudge eater.  Nashville Fudge Kitchen (nashvillefudgekitchen.com) has a large variety of fudges including my two favorites; peanut butter and butter pecan, yummy.  They have flavored popcorn and various candies just to mention a couple of more sweet treats.  They’re right there at 175 S. Van Buren. The smell of delight will hit you the moment you open the door.

If you’re in the mood for ice cream, you have several options.  Our favorite is Fearrin’s  Depot (fearrinsdepot.com).
