Welcome to Camp Buckwood

We are a private, exclusively male, members-only resort (membership sign-up occurs at check-in.)

We wanted to build a place in Indiana where guys would feel comfortable just being themselves.  We have owned this property since 2001 and bought it with the intention of converting it to an exclusive and private members-only resort. As soon as we took possession of the property, we immediately began the administrative and physical processes of achieving our goal. Learning from our previous business experience, we approached the administrative end of the project with the utmost diligence.

We have made sure that all State of Indiana and Brown County Indiana Laws, Codes and Ordinances, License and Permits have been properly addressed and are fully in place. It is incredibly important to us that we and our members respect nature and our neighbors.

We look forward to you joining us!

Bill B.Housekeeping/Wood Guy
My name is Bill. I am Buckwood’s custodian. I keep the place clean, help out in many others ways too and I sell firewood to you as well! I have been coming to Buckwood for 15 years and have been happy to work at here for the past six years and counting. I enjoy how peaceful it is here. It is my stress free zone and I really enjoy socializing with the many friendly men that come here. I have been involved in charity work for years. I’ve toured locally as “Richard Simmons” and here at camp each year my “Bath House Betty” character helps raise money for Mother’s Cupboard Food Bank. My dog’s name is Casey. You will see her with me as I deliver your firewood. She likes treats!
CarlEvents Coordinator
My name is Carl but the men of Camp Buckwood call me “Julie the Cruise Director.” It has stuck evidently! I am mainly responsible for the organizing, setup, hosting and breakdown of events. I also help with pool and hot tub maintenance as well as office hours. I began coming to Camp Buckwood on a day pass in 2015. I fell in love and began tent camping that summer! In 2016, I upgraded to my first RV and became a partial seasonal camper in 2017. I began working for Camp Buckwood in 2018 as a seasonal camper. The think I enjoy most about Camp Buckwood is the acceptance of all people. Our men are the best and we truly feel like a family during our camping season. When I’m not working, I enjoy movies and live theatre as well as traveling and enjoying new adventures (of course while seeking my Prince Charming along the way! hahaha) I have few secrets, but the ones I do have will stay secret till I know you more. One thing I feel everyone should know about Camp Buckwood is that it truly IS what you make it. YOU decide what experiences you want to have, and make them happen! (within the boundaries of others, of course).
Uncle Bill B.
Uncle Bill B.Torch Lighter & Office Staff
At Camp Buckwood I’m known as Uncle Bill. I work in the office Monday through Thursday. I also purchase supplies for BuckMart and send out the weekly newsletter. I started coming to Buckwood in 2006. I became a “seasonal” camper in 2011 and have worked here during the season since 2014. For me the most best thing about Buckwood is the companionship and feeling of being with family. I have a project that is truly a labor of love: I maintain, fill and light the tiki torches around the lake and on the other trails. Gee, I thought everyone at Buckwood knew everything about me, maybe too much, so you probably would be surprised to learn that I’m actually quite shy and reserved in most situations. When describing Camp Buckwood to someone who was never been, my standard answer is that it is a very fun and special place. I’m a full time RV’er. When Buckwood closes for the winter I head to Florida and stay at Sawmill Camping Resort. Though I do have a number of good friends there, nothing is better than when members of my Buckwood family come down for a winter vacation.
GregPool Guy/Maintenence
My name is Greg. I take care of the pool, hot tub, and do general maintenance projects on the property. I started camping here Memorial Day weekend in 2017. I loved it so much, I now spend my summers here. I love my extended family of men here. So many great guys, and always new ones showing up. I’ve had a Harley most of my life that I ride in my free time. I’m a sailor with a small boat on Lake Monroe. I’m a decent cook. I grew up on a small farm near Decatur in Adams County. I used to be fluent in ASL (sign language), but have fallen out of practice lately. I think most new guys I’ve met here are surprised at how friendly people are. I’ve seen some really shy guys find friendships here that keep them coming back. I usually camp in Bear Gulch. Be sure to say hi when you’re out wandering!

GaryPhotographer/Webmaster/Graphic Design
Hello! My name is Gary, and I am Buckwood’s resident photographer, webmaster, and graphic designer. My duties include this website, some of the photography you see here, as well as designing logos and advertisements you see around camp and on our social media. I have been coming to Buckwood off and on since 2014, but really fell in love in 2018 and was honored to be asked to fill a much more permanent position as webmaster and graphic designer. What I really love the most about Buckwood is just how incredibly welcoming and non-judgmental it is. I always feel so welcome and loved while I am here. Whenever I am not at Buckwood, I am practicing mental health therapy or working in my photo studio at home! Don’t be surprised if you see me roaming around camp with my camera. You may be surprised to learn that I am a huge Lego freak. I make no apologies for being so, either! I believe that Buckwood is a place for men where they can just be themselves. No judgement from the outside world, nor from the other campers. Buckwood is whatever you make it to be, and you can make it exactly what makes you feel happy. I hope that you would all join me at camp, and say hi when you see me!

Our 48+ acre beautiful retreat is nestled in the rolling hills of historic northeastern Brown County, Indiana and sits down a long private lane. The property was once the site of a small one-room school house with the original foundation still on location.

Be Smart, Shop at BuckMart!

BuckMart is our camp store located right in the office.  Don’t run to town if you have forgotten something!  Chances are we can save you a trip.  We also have cool Buckwood swag for sale as well as ice and firewood.  Store hours are the same as the office hours:

Sunday – Thursday: 10am to 5pm

Friday – Saturday: 10am to 9pm

The Pavilion offers shade and comfort during some of mother nature’s worst moments, located in the heart of the campground next to the pool.

Rusty’s is located inside the large recreational barn is located across from the Lodge. This climate-controlled space provides an excellent entertainment space for multiple events throughout the season, including dance parties, karaoke, potluck dinners, and more!

Three shower houses provide a welcome respite any time. Two are located near the pool, and the third is attached to Rusty’s.

A laundry facility with vending is available for those extended stays.

Our heated pool, with large deck for sunning,  is placed beautifully in the privacy of our property. This area is a wonderful place to take sun, cool off or just relax. Scrabble™, corn hole and card & board games are always on the menu.

Our hot tub has been touted as “the biggest in the US” according to a recent blogger who claims to have seen all campgrounds of this kind in the US. This is a hot spot (pun intended) of nighttime activity throughout the season.

Our newly-dedicated Lake Shasta is a great place to enjoy!  Our 2.5 acre lake is stocked with Large Mouth Bass, Catfish and Blue Gill. At sunrise and just before sunset the fish literally jump onto your hook. No fishing license is required but bring your own fishing gear and bait.  It also serves as an excellent natural swimming hole. The dock on land and the floating dock provide a great place to hang out.  We have no lifeguard on duty so swimming is always at your own risk, diving is strictly prohibited.

Our beautiful wooded trails will let you become even more in touch with nature. In the unlikely event that you may venture off the clearly marked trails, our property boundary is clearly marked by a yellow cable. Please respect the property boundary at all times. We want to be good neighbors!

We offer indoor and outdoor accommodations through the 4 Seasons Lodge, cabins,  RV and tent sites. We also offer day passes to enjoy camp for a shorter period of time.

The 4 Seasons Lodge has four full bathrooms and two half-baths. Large stone fireplaces, constructed of beautiful Brown County stone,  adorn both the sitting room and the dinning room with 25 foot vaulted ceilings. Our guest rooms are spacious and comfortable.  Each has it’s own unique personality and offers camping for the pampered.  Meals are included for all lodge guests!  Hardwood floors and knotty pine walls, hand-hewn from the property’s trees, were put in place with nails left over from the building of barracks at near by Camp Atterbury.  Large picture windows throughout the lodge help to bring the outdoors indoors.

Our cabins are a comfortable option for those who prefer a more private, home-like atmosphere. Cabins include several amenities that can be seen in the Lodging & Rates Menu.

The RV sites are each equipped with water and 20, 30, or 50 amp electric services. We also have two dump stations for your convenience.

The tent sites offer pull-up unloading and loading (with plenty of parking close by!). Water hydrants and wash sinks are conveniently located throughout the property.

See descriptions of all accommodations on the Lodging and Rates menu.

A three (3) night minimum reservation is required for all holiday reservations.  Holidays include Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Specific details of the holiday events can be found on our Calendar menu.
